For over thirty years, Resel Oil Co. and Crop Spraying has been a vital part of the Wessington community. In August of 1972, Lyle Resel became the Standard Oil Jobber assigned to the territory in this area, and within four years, he was offered the opportunity to purchase the business, making him an independent owner.
Resel Oil started out small, owning just one gas truck to make farm deliveries and a spray coupe for crop spraying. A few years later, an LP truck was added and the company began delivering propane to town and country customers.
In 1991, Resel decided to expand the business further, to offer liquid and dry fertilizer, along with the chemical sales, and construction on an enclosed fertilizer plant was begun.
Another expansion of Resel Oil came in 2000 with the building of Quickfill Corner. The self-serve gas and diesel station, that uses customer cards and credit cards, is located on the south side of Highway 14, at the county line.
Lyle’s wife, Becky, has played an important role as the bookkeeper and office manager. Lyle and Becky’s sons, Jason and Chad work in the business as crop sprayers. Jason also helps Becky with the bookkepping. The brothers both graduated from Mitchell Vo-Tech, where Jason studied heating and furnace repair, and Chad majored in Chemical Technology.
Resel Oil employs Becky’s brother, Terry Danburg, Mick Resel, and Mike Namany. Terry and Jason do most of the propane delivery, and Mike delivers most of the gas. Mick, who is Lyle’s nephew, works as a diesel mechanic and does crop spraying for the company.
The Resel Oil Co. & Crop Spraying office was based out of Lyle and Becky’s home until last December when they moved into their new office building. According to Becky, everyone is really enjoying the new spacious office, which is located directly across the street from the old one, on Barden Street in north of Wessington.
If you need fuel delivery or crop spraying, don’t hesitate to call 458-2259 or 800-491-4521. Resel also has a fax number 605-458-2659.
When asked what their next expansion project might be, Lyle said they were thinking about expanding the fertilizer plant. Lyle and Becky both agree, “We are proud to look back and see how our family business has grown, and we really enjoy working with the community.” Resel Oil plans on being a vital part of the Wessington community for many years to come.
